The Domaine de l'Escarderie is one of the most attarctive of the Fronsadais region. The small stream that runs down from the La Rivière castle through copses of elms and oaks used to power the old Escarderie mill. During the 19th century, the previous building was replaced by a comfortable villa situated on a knoll. In 1813 the estate passed into the ownership of Mr. Bourgues Saint-Genis, whose daughter was married to Théophile Lacaze, who redesigned l'Escarderie. All his time was devoted to his artistic tastes, notably painting; there are therefore many paintings by this artist from Libourne, most of which are exhibited at the Libourne museum. From then on, the estate remained in the family, although it became a ruin, having been unihabited for fifty years. In 1982, the current owners began renovating this attractive estate.
