This fort was built in the 13th century along the defensive line of Robert de Bellème, known as "le Diable" and defended the lands of this ally of the King of England against the Counts of the Maine. It was protected by a moat crossed by a drawbridge. In the 16th century, Raoul le Bouyer died at Crécy in 1346. Nicolas le Bouyer married one of the ladies-in-waiting of Jeanne d'Albret, mother of Henri IV, Queen of Navarre and Countess of Alençon, and settled in the Perche. In 1655, Julien le Bouyer, Lord of St-Gervais and Vingt-Hannaps married Geneviève, the only daughter of Charles de Mouhoudou, in the castle chapel. In 1770, Charles Alexandre, renovated the castle; he removed the drawbridge and filled-in most of the moat. When Charles-Antoine returned from the colonies, he entered Napoleon's service and campaigned in Russia.
