3 Guest rooms - 10 persons
Orignally constructed on a natural headland, this elegant residence offers wonderful views of the Loire valley. All that remains of the original building is the base of a round tower and the defensive moats that surround the structure. During the reign of Louis XII it belonged to the Lords of Chantemerle. Before the French Revolution, the castle was torn down and rebuilt, this time facing towards the Loire Valley. Next to it there is a wine-producers, house; this was the Estate's main activity before the 18th century. The architectural style is simple albeit elegat, and the symmetry of the windows - a typical 18th century feature - favours the lighting of a tastefully decorated interior. Your hostess, Marie-Colette Grandeau, who is a keen hunter, bought the estate in 1991, and organises hunting weekends from October to March.
Dinner with your hosts : Light suppers: eggs, local goat's-milk cheese, charcuterie, fruit and vegetables from the garden.
Leisure Activites : Swimming pool, bicycle hire, croquet, table-tennis, hot-air ballooning.
A bedroom and two suites with telephone, television, private bathrooms. The bedroom is light with a white-painted French ceiling. The suite has dark Bourgogne furniture and antique paintings and engravings. The loft, with sloping ceiling, is more minimalist. Hearty breakfasts: bread, croissants, home-made cake, 40 varieties of tea, fruit juice, home-made honey and jams. Brunch possible.
